After the Transport Ministry has spent almost the entire year “buried” in red tape, and transport sector projects have been almost frozen, now good news are starting to appear near the end of the year. Let’s say better late than never.
Thus, Transport Minister Ioan Rus stated on a television channel that 2018 could be the year in which Romania will have two highways across the Carpathians, one that would link southern regions with northern regions, and one linking eastern regions with western regions.
“By 2018 the top priority in this Master Plan (Romania’s General Transport Master Plan – editor’s note), apart from all the networks that would ensure interlinkage between various localities, regions etc., are two essential things: two south-north roads across the Carpathians, through Pitesti and Brasov, and two roads across the Carpathians, one Bacau-Brasov and the other from Targu Neamt, through Poiana Largului, that would also go into Transylvania'.
