Finance Minister: Romania contributes with additional 781.2 million SDRs in increasing IMF capital

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) will contribute with other 781.2 million special drawing rights (SDRs) in increasing the social capital of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as the Government approved. According to Finance Minister Gheorghe Ialomitianu, Romania’s current contribution to the IMF stands at 1.030 billion SDRs, but this increase was necessary following a decision made in 2010 by the IMF Board of Governors. Ialomitianu underscored that increasing Romania’s contribution had nothing to do with the recent decision of the European Council, through which the EU states were invited to contribute with 200 billion euros to the re-capitalization of the IMF, within the measures taken for saving the euro area.
