A great conscience of our time died with Vaclav Havel, President Traian Basescu says in his condolence message sent on Sunday, on the death of former Czech Republic President.

“A great conscience of our time died with Vaclav Havel. Both in the confrontation with totalitarianism and during the construction of democracy, his voice was always the voice of liberty, a consistent plea for the uniqueness of the human person and of his moral vocation. All those who, in Central and Eastern Europe, wanted the fall of the communist regime regarded Vaclav Havel with admiration and hope. His political ability of expressing the inalienable nature of human rights and the citizens’ aspiration to a democratic society, making a transition without violence, turned him into a symbol of the reason that can defeat terror and of the courage that knows how to overcome fear,” the message of the Chief of State shows.
