President of the European Parliament Martin Schultz on Wednesday argued that Romania should be allowed to enter the border-free Schengen Area because it has managed to fulfil all the accession criteria.
‘I am indeed a supporter of Romania, particularly of its accession to the Schengen Area. Romania has met the accession criteria and that is why it should enter the Schengen Area,’ Schultz told journalists at a news conference in Bucharest.
He also mentioned the need for cooperation between the European Parliament and the national parliaments of the EU member states for the finalisation of the European Union’s 2014-2020 multi-annual financial framework.
He mentioned that the European Budget is ambitious and could benefit some member states, including Romania.
