Romanian Intelligence Service to pay 50,000 lei damages to businessman Dinu Patriciu for illegally tapping his phones

Higher Court of Justice rejected on Friday the appeals formulated both by Romanian businessman Dinu Patriciu and by the Romanian Intelligence Service, SRI, in the trial in which the businessman sued SRI for illegally tapping his phones. Dinu Patriciu received 50,000 lei compensation, news agency Agerpres reports. Romanian businessman and Rompetrol company sued the Romanian Intelligence Service following the publication in the press of some SRI transcripts in 2006 which contained Patriciu’s conversations with various businessmen.
