Romanian Employers Forbidden To Sack Employees In First Six Mos After Parental Leave End

Romanian employers are forbidden to sack employees in the first six months after they return from parental leave, according to an emergency ordinance on new parental leave and child-rearing benefit measures to be implemented starting next year.

The emergency ordinance also states that contributions to the health insurance system will be paid during the parental leave period, the Labor Ministry said Thursday. The normative act extends unpaid leave after the first three births to four months from three months, transposing Council Directive 2010/18/EU of March 8, 2010 into Romanian legislation.
