Prime Minister Victor Ponta said Tuesday at the headquarters of the Agriculture Ministry that he is supporting the introduction of a differential VAT on agricultural produce as from January 1, 2013.

‘I am supporting the introduction on January 1, 2013, with all the budgetary consequences, of a differential Value-Added Tax (VAT) on agricultural produce, a 24-percent VAT, 9 percent to be withheld for the national budget and 15 percent to be paid back to producers.

This is a fundamental programme and we want the effects of price dropping, and particularly of the fight against tax evasion and our support for the local producers, to be positive in 2013,’ Ponta told a news conference at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
