EPP group leader: Schengen Area should expand under same conditions as other accessions

The leader of the European People’s Party group in European Parliament Joseph Daul said at Victoria Palace (the govt’s offices) on Friday that Schengen Area should expand for Romania and Bulgaria as it was for the other countries, if the joining criteria are met, but he admitted that nationalism and populism play a powerful role in Europe’s political rhetoric.

Daul made the remarks at a meeting with Prime Minister Emil Boc, also attended by Ministers of Finances Gheorghe Ialomitianu, of Foreign Affairs Teodor Baconschi, of Justice Catalin Predoiu and by leader of the Democratic Liberal (PDL) MEPs Marian Jean Marinescu.
