The droughty span is putting the maize and sunflower crops at risk and given such a situation, the small and medium-sized firms (SME) will get compensation from the state to cover 80 percent of the losses, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Daniel Constantin told a news conference on Friday.

“The droughty span is putting the maize and sunflower crops at risk. We’ve been having some 28-29 days in which temperatures have not fallen below 33 degrees (Celsius) and thus the plants are hit at a larger rate than wheat”, Constantin stressed.

The minister announced the Government will issue a resolution by which the losses incurred by the firms will be 80 percent compensated, provided more than 30 percent of the crops is damaged.
