Romania Raises Fines For Failure To Repair Buildings With High Seismic Risk - Draft

The Romanian Development Ministry significantly increases fines charged to homeowners and local authorities who fail to carry out technical inspections and start rehabilitation works on buildings considered to have a high seismic risk. According to a draft decree drawn up by the ministry, fines will increase five times and will range between 2,500 lei (EUR583) and RON75,000, from RON500 - RON15,000 under current regulations. Fines ranging between RON50,000 and RON75,000 lei will be applied to local authorities who fail to observe a two-year deadline to start repair works on buildings included in annual rehabilitation programs.
